Bizarre and amusing panoramic photo fails
Before smartphones, the art of panoramic photography was an art mastered by few.
These days, everyone is having a go – though with varying results.
Often if you don’t manage to pull it off correctly – this requires sweeping the camera slowly and smoothly from far left to far right – even a small jog can ruin a photo.
Other camera slips showcased here, however, have resulted in accidental masterpieces, or at least fairly amusing spectacles.
And some are so horrifyingly bizarre, perfectly innocent subjects who were caught in the frame were seemingly transformed into demons.
Here, MailOnline Travel presents a catalogue of panoramic snaps that are anything but scenic.
Caterpillar: They say cats have nine lives, but they definitely don’t have eight legs
Off with her head! It was meant to be an all-encompassing view of a crumbling arena, but it went off in a slightly abstract direction
The stuff of nightmares: This was captioned ‘what happens when you take a panoramic photo and your dog runs into the shot’
Leap of faith: Somewhere during the panoramic sweep, this chap got chopped to bits
The child’s a genius: This dad explained of his twisted portrait ‘my kid took a panorama photo of me that went horribly right’
Why the long face: Not only is this horse’s neck made to look extremely long, one of its front hooves has also molded forms with a spectator in the background
Giddy up: Here, the opposite effect has resulted in horses that look freakishly compact
Stranger and stranger: This example is as comical as it is creepy, a strolling cat who looks more like some sort of demon from Harry Potter
Nobody nose: What we can learn from this, is that a dachshund crossed with a baby elephant would make a somewhat adorable hybrid
Something’s fishy: Either this beachgoer has elastic forearms, or another panorama has gone wrong
The long and the short of it: This was captioned ‘I was messing around with panorama in class a couple weeks ago, when this happened’
Apocalyptic: It looks like a scene from Inception, but was more likely achieved by a sharp tilt during a panoramic snap
Dizzy: Similarly, this was captioned ‘my aunt can’t figure out how to take panorama shots on her phone, which lead to a lot of horrible but great pictures, like this gem from Niagara Falls’
Happy mistake: This rather artistic accident was captioned ‘I was taking a panorama photo with my mobile phone and I captured a bird flying in sequence’
Which way? In Greek mythology, there is indeed a two-headed dog called Orthrus. In this instance, it was simply the case of a hound turning his head mid-shot
Picasso-esque: The beachy background, the brisk breeze – there was so much potential for this to go right
‘Make sure you get all the background in’: A particularly troubling example of a well-intentioned skew-whiff photo
