Is this the worst blind date EVER?
Blind dates can be a hit and miss affair but one man may now be regretting his
Billy Peck, 24, was paired with Alyssa for Time Out New York’s Undateables column which matches up a couple for a blind date every week and then gets their verdict on how it all went.
While Alyssa , also 24, politely described actor Billy as ‘interesting and cool’ but felt he’d be more of a friend, his assessment of the date was rather more withering.
Billy announced that as soon as she set eyes on Alyssa he knew she ‘didn’t have the goods’ and then criticised her for ordering a well done steak and dessert before declaring he felt like he’d ‘burned’ two hours of his time.
Things got worse after Maya Kosoff, shared the full article on Twitter, whipping people into a frenzy of indignation over Billy’s rude behaviour.
However, the actor – who specialises in playing young, fiery characters with hidden vulnerability according to his IMDB page – has since claimed he was ‘grossly misquoted’ by the magazine.
Billy Peck, 24, dated fellow New Yorker Alyssa for Time Out’s blind date column but has come under fire for his rather ungentlemanly verdict on the occasion
Billy has since insisted he was ‘grossly misquoted’ by the magazine
Billy initially told the magazine that it takes ‘more than just a beautiful woman’ to turn his head, but claimed that as soon as Alyssa walked into the room he knew she wasn’t the girl for him.
‘She didn’t have the goods,’ he explained, also complaining that she was five minutes late, which ‘annoyed the s***’ out of him.
However, determined to be a gentleman, he decided he ‘had to sit there for to hours’ and speak to her, regardless of there being no attraction.
For her part, Alyssa said that he did most of the talking but killed the conversation by telling her not be nervous, even though she wasn’t, which left her second guessing herself.
Billy’s complaints included Alyssa ordering well-done steak and dessert, not being good looking enough and turning up a few minutes late
When she did speak, Alyssa took the opportunity to compliment Ben ‘many times’.
While this may have pleased him, he was less than impressed with her approach to ordering as her request for a well done steak left him horrified.
He explained: ‘The waiter just looked at me and I looked at the waiter. I was like, “Live your life but this is not Outback Steakhouse, girl”.’
He didn’t find love on his date and Ben certainly hasn’t won any fans on Twitter either
Alyssa’s decision to have dessert didn’t go down well either as she decided to order ice cream just as Ben was trying to wrap up the date.
He recalled: ‘She was like “Yay, ice cream”, so that was another 20 minutes”.’
Unsurprisingly, Ben’s overall verdict was not a positive one, rating the experience a mere one out of five.
‘There was nothing drawing me in,’ he said. ‘She was very sweet, always smiling, always bubbly. But I feel like I took two hours of my time and kind of just burned it.’
