Man finds live MAGGOTS wriggling on his pepperoni pizza
If you’re about to tuck into some food, then look away now – as a new stomach-churning video may just put you off your next meal.
Care assistant Ollie Ayres, 20, from Devon, found what appears to be hundreds of live maggots crawling all over the top of a pepperoni pizza he had just bought from Tesco.
He filmed the disgusting pests wriggling all over his ruined meal – which was still in its packaging – in a shocking video clip.
Care assistant Ollie Ayres went to eat his pepperoni pizza from Tesco – only to find it crawling with live maggots (left and right). He then filmed the stomach-churning pests wriggling
The video starts incomprehensibly with a shot of the edge of Ollie’s sofa.
But then he quickly flicks the camera to the pizza’s label, showing this is a Tesco Stone Baked Italian Kitchen Pepperoni pizza.
The camera then moves to the clear panel on the front of the pizza box, which are usually designed to give you an enticing glimpse of your delicious meal.
But instead, the nausea-inducing video shows hundreds of disgusting maggots crawling all over the pizza.
The video was uploaded to Tesco’s Facebook page, and a staff worker quickly responded to Ollie’s complaint (left), expressing shock at the video featuring live maggots (right, a stock picture)
Maggots are fly larvae, and hatch after a fly has laid eggs. However it’s not clear how a fly managed to lay eggs on the pizza as it was still in its packaging when Ollie went to eat it
A Tesco spokesman said: ‘We have robust food quality processes in place during the preparation and packaging of our products, so we were surprised to hear about this issue. We will be looking into this with our supplier to understand what happened.’
Ollie uploaded the video to Tesco’s Facebook page, flagging the maggot-covered pizza to staff.
‘Hiya lads, I was hoping you would figure out a solution to this conundrum,’ he jokingly wrote above the video.
A Tesco staff member responded quickly – but even he seemed shocked at the video.
He wrote ‘I’m sorry to see this. I’ve got to say, I’ve never seen anything like this on a pizza before!’
He asked Ollie to return it to the store where he bought it from ‘due to the severity of this’.
