Off-duty NYPD cop watches as friend beats man unconscious
Surveillance footage allegedly shows an off-duty New York police officer standing by and watching as his friend beat a man unconscious outside a bar.
Vincent Mosca, 27, claims he suffered a brain injury and needed reconstructive surgery to fix his facial fractures after he was beaten outside a Long Island bar in April last year.
Despite Mosca’s injuries, the NYPD chose not to charge or discipline the off-duty officer Frank Colavito, CBS2 reports.

Surveillance footage captured outside The Tap Room bar in Massapequa Park allegedly shows Ian Walsh punching the victim in the head while off-duty NYPD officer Frank Colavito watches
Colavito, who remained on the force until he was fired last week, failed to report the crime and did nothing to stop his friend Ian Walsh from kicking and punching the victim.
Mosca, a hedge fund analyst and son of a FDNY battallion chief, has since filed a lawsuit against Colavito, Walsh and the NYPD.

Surveillance cameras outside The Tap Room bar in Massapequa Park captured Walsh punching Mosca in the head as he stood by his car.
He could then be seen repeatedly attacking the victim as he lied helplessly on the ground.
Mosca claims the off-duty officer flashed his police badge but continued to stand idly by as he was attacked.
‘He said: ‘I’m with the NYPD. You’re not going anywhere,’ Mosca said. ‘That was the last thing I remember before getting hit and attacked, knocked out unconscious.’
Mosca said they had all been inside the bar when Walsh, who he knew from high school, accused him of texting his girlfriend.
He said he opted to leave the bar to avoid any confrontation, but claims Walsh and Colavito followed him outside.
‘That pain – I don’t think I could ever forget about the pain that I felt that night,’ Mosca said.

Mosca claims the two men went back inside the bar after the attack and celebrating with their friends.
He says they were captured on surveillance cameras coming back outside with their friends to look at him lying unconscious on the ground.
Mosca notified police two days later.
Walsh was charged and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault. He was sentenced to three years probation.
Meanwhile, Colavito remained on the force but was placed on modified assignment for a period of time.
The NYPD said he was fired last week.
